Commonwealth Connects

The program was conceived as a catalyst which would facilitate the bridging of the digital divide. The aim of the Commonwealth Connects program is to create conditions that are conducive to investment in ICT development and act as a broker in bringing together those with resources to invest with those who could benefit from them.

Engaged by the Commonwealth to facilitate a series of regional workshops covering Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific region to develop and define a comprehensive strategy for COMNET-IT, the Commonwealth’s program to bridge the digital divide. The workshops, which so far have been held in South Africa and Trinidad, included senior government officials designated as program champions as well as regional development partner agencies, such as the IMF, the World Bank, UNDP and other regional agencies. These sessions have established an effective and engaged contact network and drawn out the foundations for a comprehensive plan for COMNET-IT to match specific country needs with potential shared contributions.

In addition, M2 has developed key strategic documentation around the Commonwealth Connects program including the PMO standards and methodologies, principles and methods for the collection of Commonwealth needs, the ICT needs sustainability strategy, and the ICT wealth distribution strategy. Working closely with Commonwealth Connects, M2 also supported the initial pilot to collect ICT information from the pilot test country.
